Volunteering

The cafe is a hub in the village and a hive of activity! We are deeply grateful for all the volunteers who make a positive difference to the people we serve across the area. Getting involved can take many forms. There are opportunities to volunteer in the Cafe, our Community shop or in our Foodbank.

In the Community Cafe we train our volunteers to gain new skills, including customer Service, Barista-Style Coffee making, food preparation, hygiene and first aid certifications.

Our volunteers play an important role, whether that is engaging with customers in the Cafe, Shop, or distributing food. 

Some of the work-related skills you could learn:

• Build workplace confidence.
• Overcome barriers.
• Customer care skills.
• Develop team-work.
• Food preparation.
• Basic Barista training.
• Food Safety & First Aid.
• Till training.
• Full training in all aspects of Cafe.

The essential workplace skills of teamwork and interaction with the public develop the attitudes, approaches and transferable skills employers hold in high regard.

Many former volunteers had their confidence reignited and skills sharpened which launched them into their next paid role.

There are opportunities volunteer in the food bank which can serve up to 200 people per week with food parcels. If you have some time to give and are looking to serve our local community, we would love to hear from you.

Opportunities in the foodbank include:

• Sorting food and donated items.
• Preparing and organizing food parcels.
• Delivering food to those who cannot get out. 

There are opportunities volunteer in our Community shop next door to the cafe. Could you spare a few hours a week to help in our Community Charity shop?

The role of the shop is vital in helping to sustain all our projects that we deliver both in the cafe and foodbank, through the money it raises. We would be very grateful for your help.

Volunteering in the Community Shop is a way to build your confidence in serving the public and gain retail-related skills which will prepare you for moving into work. For those who just wish to volunteer their time, it is an opportunity to meet people, make friends and serve the local villages.
